VERSION 2.0 NOTES!

Don't just re-install the theme!!!

Please note that version 2.0 is NOT fully compliant with theme's previous version!
It uses new framework, Courses, Events and Galleries are not the part of the
theme any more but rather became plugins. It means that you'll have to re-post
your existing Courses, Events and Galleries.
You can be safe that all of the "standard" WP content (Posts, Pages and Categories)
remains as is.

Suggestion:
If you are about to migrate to Buntington2, start as if building from scratch. Either
create separate folder or a sub-domain, duplicate your database and see how things
look like. Once ready, transfer everything in place of an old website by using
"All-in-One WP Migration" plugin.

Thanks for all your help. I was wondering if there is a way to center the images in my slider? They may vary by width slightly but we plan to keep the depth consistent. Also I had removed the breadcrumbs' code. But, of course, this left the spacing for it. So now it looks like I have a lot of white/gray space from my menu to my slider. Can I remove some of this spacing? The page is at: http://d0b.0fa.myftpupload.com/home/captain-isaac-paine-elementary-school/

OK... the slider problem can easily be solved by using photos with consistent width and height. 1140x500px is recommended by the theme but in general the width should not be less than 1140px and height is your choice. The point is that all of the slider images share width and height.

As for the breadcrumbs, I wasn't able to spot the gap. Maybe I'm shooting in the dark but something like:

    .breadcrumbs { display: none; }
...added to your theme's or child theme's "style.css" should do the job.

Helo Feeleep I have a question about the slider position on the top. On the Buntington theme template the slider is positioned almost under the Search icon. But no matter how much i try to position it, my slider always comes up a little lower, so that there is a bigger gap between the search icon and the picture. I removed section margins and have combined all of the options you included in the home page builder. But id does not work. It still comes up lower than on your template. Almost twice as bigger gap. Any solutions on your mind? Thanks! r

I think I should take a look with the developer tools coz that's the most certain method ... otherwise I can only guess. Do you have your website online (on the public server)? If true, the URL would be appreciated. In case you'd like to keep it confidential feel free to send URL via PM. Thanks!

Hi Feeleep, I bought the theme and wanted to get inspiration from your demo content on how to built the theme right. But the demo content only added the demo posts to the freshly installed theme, not the menu, structures and other things to get inspired by. Followed your instructions but I don't see anyone else experiencing the same problem in these comments. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

There's a chapter in theme manuals ( see __MANUALS__ folder inside the theme package ) named "Installation". It's the very first chapter and consists of 8 steps that should be followed to completely replicate theme's demo site.
If you follow these steps, you gonna have demo site replica on your own server in less than 15 minutes.
On a side note, be sure to import ALL the content with WP Importer plugin, not just posts! There's an option to select what to import.

Hi @feeleep, great theme! I'm in the middle of translating it and I've found a couple of small things that could be improved: 1. The original .po file should be called kazaz-{code}.po, for those who prefer storing their translations in wp-content/languages/themes, the correct prefix needs to be stated in the filename as per WP convention. This also prevents any theme update to break the translation. I had to find out the text-domain by myself, but others might not know how to do this. 2. The original en_EN.po file seems to be missing quite a few strings. The whole Buntington Options panel seems to be missing, but some post-type strings are missing to, e.g. in inc/ct_and_ctp.php, "Course Categories" and "Date Added". POEdit Pro seems to correctly catch all 754 strings (using its Wordpress translation feature). But not everybody has Pro or let alone uses this software. The provided po file has just 109. Would you mind updating this file for us international users? It would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks mate, I appreciate it!

    (1) I guess you mixed up plugin and theme language file :) Please read about theme language file naming convention here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/load_theme_textdomain

    (2) Options panel of Buntington theme relies on Vafpress framework and has its own language file, see "Buntington/vafpress/lang/" folder. Not sure what's your native language but there are already 7 different translations included! You can add your own if not present.

It's not quite correct that there are 754 strings relating to this theme translation file! You can make a simple test...
Go to http://www.icanlocalize.com/tools/php_scanner and upload "Buntington.zip" theme. The scanner will return complete report (and a .PO file) relating to all the files included in archive.

    1) Oh, snap! you're right about the naming conventions, I was just mixing it up. Adding the prefix did not do any harm though when saved to the languages folder, where it shares space with other translations for additional themes. 2) Yeah... I'm sorry but you're wrong. en_EN.po has 109 strings and vafpress.pot has 52. Your theme (options panel, custom post types, public html strings, etc) has clearly many more strings. As a seasoned translator, a complex and feature rich theme like yours has many more strings to it than barely over 100 :) icanlocalize sadly does an awful job crawling for gettext functions. It gave away only 14 vafpress strings and 119 kazaz strings, however a quick and dirty Project Find yields following results:

    • __(: 877 matches
    • _e(: 102 matches
    • _x(: 58 matches
This looks more like all the strings present in the theme. This is the order of magnitude to be expected in a premium theme like this. Obviously there may be a handful mismatches, some belonging to vafpress' core strings, and some being repeated. But I wouldn't be surprised the number of unique strings in your theme was well over 600 anyway. Please reconsider using icanlocalize and maybe try out some other tool to extract the original .po(t) file. I haven't personally tested these, but I'd suggest you used the WP i18n Tools available and documented at http://codex.wordpress.org/I18n_for_WordPress_Developers#POT_files. Please keep us posted, as this is a rather critical bug in the translations file. :-S

I agree that it would be nice to have events listed in calendar, however, the problem is with the fact that the date of event post is not the date of an actual event. It’s an event meta data. Beside, WordPress developers still don’t provide an option to show custom post types in calendar so I guess we’ll need to wait a bit for improvements.

This is a great theme. The easiest I've worked with by far. Thanks! I need smaller text for a Content Chunk than the "Formats/Small text'. Is it possible to add some CSS for that or how would you recommend achieving that? Part of the issue is I need tighter spacing between the lines of text.

Thanks, it's great to know that you like it!
Basically, what you can do is to add/overwrite styles for both "small" element and ".small" class (it's defined by Bootstrap already). So, if you are using "Buntington-child" theme, open "style.css" and paste somewhere the following :
    small, .small { font-size: 12px; line-height: 16px; display: inline-block; }
Change font-size and line-height according to your needs.

Thanks! For a case those default sidebars are not "sufficient", you can always go for a plugin. For example Custom Sidebars should do the job perfectly. But if you want to use different plugin just enter "WP custom sidebars plugin" into Google and pick the one you like better.

You need to know that this theme doesn't handle events via 3rd party plugin but rather has its own, internal system. So, the point is you can't expect compatibility between these two, it's like trying to make two different Event plugins to work together which doesn't make much sense.
What you can do for sure is to ignore Events of this theme as if they don't exists and use the plugin of your choice. Events are not a must to use with this theme but rather a feature.
    Hope it helps!

Hi and thank you for your great work! I have some questions about developement using your theme. 1) I deleted the original page (posts-page) that used to link to the widgets "Sidebar Index". Now I undeleted it but it now uses the "Sidebar category". How can I make it use the "Sidebar Index" again? Or is it a way to use that "Sidebar Index" for another page? 2) I'm using the child-theme option for the first time, and I love it! On the page "http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes" it says that: "functions.php is necessary to enqueue styles correctly". I tried to do it that way but the first problem I had was with the .k-dropdown-menu having a grey background color though it was supposed to be overriden in the "js/dropdown-menu/dropdown-menu.css"... Queuing all required file seemed difficult for me... maybe that's because I'm still a padawan!! ;) what's you're take on the technique? 3) I also added the new version of the fontawesome directly in the /vafpress/public/ (css and font), and also in the /font-awesome. It took time before I noticed I had to clear the transients for it to show in the short codes, but still no icons show, only the labels. It shows ok when rendering on the site too. Should it be preferable I did it in the child-theme too? Do you know why the Icon doesn't show in the shortcodes? Thank you for your time!

    1) "page-posts.php" template uses "sidebar-category" template by default (see "Buntington/page-posts.php", line #176). If you want to restore that template copy-paste from original theme package into your Buntington theme folder on the server.
    2) You don't need another instance of "dropdown-menu.css" in your child's theme folder. You can simply overwrite/override all the styles within your child's theme "style.css". As simple as that.
    3) You will have to roll back FontAwesome version used by Vafpress because the framework maps/handles the font library differently. I also tried to add newer version of FontAwesome but no success. There's a catch and I didn't figure out where exactly. Vafpress hasn't been updated for a long time and I suppose developers gave up on it. Tho, you can update FontAwesome for the theme if you copy-paste "css", "fonts", "less" and "scss" folders from the latest FontAwesome package into "Buntington/font-awesome" folder. Simply overwrite.

ok... for point: 1) wich page/template uses the "sidebar-index" then? (note I did not delete it from the "ftp" but from the wordpress Pages section... And I thought I saw the page was using the "sidebar-index"! Also what I didn't tell you is that the Posts-Page was not having any Page Attributes, but when I restored it from the trash bin, normal page attributes showed. Also there was a bold text on the right of the page name in the pages list that was not there. It was like the behaviour of the page changed after being moved to the trash bin. 2) ok I meant I was using "wp_enqueue_style" in functions.php to queue the parent-theme styles after reading this "Note that the previous method was to import the parent theme stylesheet using @import: this is no longer best practice." on the wordpress page about the child-theme. But there was a problem with (first I encounter) the styles from "js/dropdown-menu/dropdown-menu.css" being applied after style.css, thus having the "background: none" from style.css not overriding background: #c4c7c8; from dropdown-menu.css. Anyway, I revert back to the way you suggested (using @import) as it was working better. I just wanted to have your position on the "best practice" thing. 3) all is working in vafpress for me btw, it's just that I don't have the icons showing (see: http://snag.gy/lwmtA.jpg)... but yeah it's working in the theme pages too. My question was more about the child-theme integration for that modification. Can I "override" all those files (font and css) using folder pattern in the child-theme, adding it just in the child-theme? Thank you sooo much for you time and great work!

    1) I'm kinda confused. I thought you removed the template/file from the theme's folder but you obviously did not. Anyway, as I wrote, posts page template is using "sidebar-category". That's what's written in that very template's code and can't be different.
But you can try to install "Custom Sidebars" plugin and assign custom sidebar if you insist on changing it (see https://wordpress.org/plugins/custom-sidebars/).

    2) It's not the best practice for "some people". I don't see anything being wrong with it tho and it's much simpler than enqueuing it in functions.php, paying attention to styles loading queue, etc. Especially for someone who is not a pro or coder. So, it's just fine to use it that way.

    3) Once again, Vafpress uses its own logic to map FontAwesome. And it was bad from the very beginning because FA gets updated quite frequently. Updating the font library by putting the latest version of FA into Vafpress just doesn't work, I've tried more than once. New icons just don't show up and that's annoying. To be honest with you, I thought that Vafpress is going to evolve. I thought it's going to become as big as Unyson, it had a potential so I took the risk. But for some reason developers gave up and nobody wanted to branch it further at Github. Big shame.

Anyway, thank you for those fast replies! Have a nice day Sir!

You can use FontAwesome cheatsheet for that purpose. For example:

    [super_button icon="fa-graduation-cap" label="This is label" tagline="This is tagline" color="#ea5644" link="http://somelink.com" link_opens="_self"]

If you replace icon="fa-graduation-cap" with icon=" fa-asterisk", you'll insert different icon. Here's a cheatsheet page.

That's because any user text is escaped with esc_attr(). But you can try the following...

    1) open "Buntington/inc/shortcodes_engine.php" and go to line #382
That very line should read this:

    $descr = esc_attr( $slider_slides[ $cnt_slides ][ 'slide_description' ] );
    2) replace line #382 with this:
    $descr = wp_kses_post( $slider_slides[ $cnt_slides ][ 'slide_description' ] );

wp_kses_post() allows certain tags. For instance these HTML tags are allowed in post comments.

Answered just a few posts earlier...
What you need to do is to open “Buntington/public/img/” and replace “site-logo.png” inside that folder. If you are using child theme, just create ”/public/img/” inside and upload your own “site-logo.png”. Be as close as possible to original “site-logo.png” width and height, keep file name and extension (file type) unchanged!

Changelog can be found at the bottom of Buntington theme's page here at Themeforest.
Changelog tells you which files have been updated in case you don't want to replace entire theme. Use FTP or file manager tool (control panel of your hosting account) for that purpose.
You can also download theme package from your Downloads section, extract it to a local drive and then use theme's installation file to install the latest version. Of course, you should deactivate your theme first by activating another one in repository (for example WP's default TwentyFifteen) which is followed by "old" version theme removal. Once removed, use "buntington.zip" (theme installation) file to install new version.
    Hope it makes sense.

There's a panel/screen in theme options named "Social Media Sites" where users can add a link to their social network profile(s). If you clear up all the input files from there only Contact and RSS feed icons will show up which means they are default. So...
    1) If you want to add or remove certain links from Quick Contact widget simply add or remove links to social network profile pages in theme Options.
    2) If you want to remove Contact and RSS feed open "Buntington/inc/theme_widgets.php" and delete code between lines #726 and #738. Just for case, here's what you should remove:

Icons used by Quick Contact widget are FontAwesome icons and are inserted automatically. If you want to replace them you'll need to find the way to do that.
The logic behind icons and how they get inserted can be seen in the same file ( "Buntington/inc/theme_widgets.php" ), on the lines #739 - #747. Hopefully it makes sense!

I'm not quite sure I understand the question mate... If you ask me how to make a menu item that doesn't load another page then just enter "#" into URL input field of Custom links panel ( http://prntscr.com/9xqy6l ).

I'm interested in using the Contact Form DB plugin, https://wordpress.org/plugins/contact-form-7-to-database-extension/, do you know whether that works with your theme? I'll probably use a JetPack created form with the Contact Form Database plugin. Thanks! Continue to love your theme!

Plugins are about to extend WordPress so basically none of it shouldn't affect theme functionality. You can use CF7 plugin but please be sure to use existing classes when creating forms as these will ensure design/layout consistency.
A good place to look at how forms are created and which classes are used for input elements is "contact.php".

Dear Theme Developer. My college bought your theme, and we are now facing a big problem with it. We are not able to make any shortcode working (like: Accordion Shortcode by CTLT), nor any accordions (in our example), despite adding error free function code to the function.php file. Please, do you know why it might be happening? Regards

You don't need to change/add anything to "functions.php" in order to make shortcodes work. There's a set of pre-made shortcodes that are accessible via text editor ( screenshot ).
For a case you downloaded third party plugin and which also allows to be inserted via shortcode, then the most probably you'll have to paste it manually. Unless, of course, the plugin creates a button in text editor.
So, no need to alter "functions.php" because things do not work that way in WordPress. I'm sure about that 100%.

Hi! I just bought your Bungtinton theme. I wonder how to get the slider to show all images cropped to the same size, as in the demo. Thanks! Mariana

You will have to crop all slider images to the same size before upload. Or, there's another way... Use WordPress' built-in image editor to crop. How? When media library window/panel opened, select any image and then from the right hand sidebar click on Edit image link.
